Its not a rumor. This is real. Coming to think abt it, he had filed a labor in 2000/2001 time period and had abandoned it when he switched companies. I am wondering if USCIS takes the oldest one an applicant had ever filed.

Probably it differs by state, but DL has no ties with H1-B renewal or vice-versa, at least in CA. My wife's H1 expires in Apr 09, but she recently got her DL renewed until Sept. 2012!! If it was a federal law change (after 9/11), it would have to be applied to every state.

hi i have come to the u.s. on a f2 visa and currently my spouse is doing her OPT.i applied for a driving licence in georgia and i was issued a learners permit based on my I94,visa and letter from social security office denying me a ssn.
i went to the same centre(decatur) for a road test and now they say that we cannot give you a licence because your visa says dependent for a student of wisconsin university,so you should go to wisconsin and get your licence.i went to another dmv centre and after verifying my docs. they let me take the road test and i cleared the test and they asked me to go to the counter to pay money , at that time the person in the counter again asked me for passpoert and i94 and he saw that university of wisconsin stuff on my visa and he said he will not issue a licence and i spoke to the supervisor and he says get a letter from INS ,i showed him my spouse opt card and showed him the words in the card which reads"eligible to work in u.s. upto ----").now he says that is your spouse opt card ,what autorisation do you have to stay in GA ?
has any one come across such a problem?is so kindly advice

All they had to do was to introduce another $2000 fee for every Green Card Re-Captured. Most of us would have been out of this mess and they would have got the money they needed. This Grand posturing is extremely disturbing and i hate the politics behind it.
I wish the Democrats lose big time and lose their hold from Senate and house.
we all seem to think that after our problem is fixed, all the problems in the world will be gone..... if there is hunger problem, our solution ought to be increase in eb quota..... if there is drinking water problem, our solution is recapture.....
my reading is that chinese & indians think too much of themselves.... as if the world would collapse without them..... very narrow thinking..... now u would see a few here blaming indian politicians, some saying outsourcing will increase, some saying US will lose more jobs, world will fall apart...... well that's just too much reality for one day
lets get back to the important subjects of eb3 & eb2, crapy data analysis, shitty predictions & lets find out who is better than everyone else, is eb2 better more deserving that eb3....... or will the world stop spinning if the dates do not progress in the next month visa bulletin....... & those self-importance professing indian press articles..... these r the discussions we should be having.... can we please get back to those more important topics.....

The impact to companies like Infy etc is ~5-10MM
If someone look at their last year Balance sheet, They spent appx 16MM on visas, now assuming H1 cost came to ~10MM (these companies do lot of business elsewhere )
that would translate to ~ 2500 filings (including extn, new etc)
this additional $2000 would result in additional $5MM cost if they decide to continue filing 2500
This would not be too huge to make a dent on these companies. yes they may increase their billing to client by $2-5

They have already moved to Title 3 of the markup really quickly (and I mean REALLY QUICKLY). Hopefully they will move past Title 3 soon too and get onto Title 4 and 5 hopefully on Wed.

We suffered a lot as well..We applied first in 2001 and then my husband got laid off and had to start process all over again. We are on our 9th year H1 , so it was'nt all rosy for us ..

First, the whole concept of donor based organisation is so stupid.

They increased quota of H1B, did AC21 because it was a market demand.
Now the economy is down, there are elections, jobless rate is high............ so think why will they increase h1B quota or greencard quota? What is the incentive for government?
I have always held that asking for quota increase is a bad idea and will not happen.
Visa recapture is the best bet and even that appears to be a hassle as there are many factions opposing it.

If you are stuck at Atlanta PERM backlog center , please email your case number and explain them that your application has been pending for a LONG time and request them to help us get out of this grave situation. Also, please post on this thread after you have sent an email so that others can be motivated to do the same. We need to send as many emails as possible to get any positive feedback. I know that DOL mentioned that they will start processing our applications soon, but we need to keep up the pressure from our end so that it has some positive effect.
