Buddy you are right! I was at my relative's place and they received their GCs recently about a year ago.
They were happy that the govt. is doing all kinds of H1-B checks and restricting immigration. I am not saying they are bad people but rising costs of living (not only because of inflation (?) but mainly because of growing children which require paying for swimming, paying for paino, etc., house maintenance, updating furniture, etc.) make people to behave in a certain way. They were all worried because immigration in IT was depressing their salaries and blah blah. It's natural cycle of life and very tough to be financially independent but then bajrangbali is exception as he could predict in march what well fargo would be in june and today he can predict what well fargo will be in september!

The Govt did not promise that one will get green card in X years...and broke that promise. Yes, the system is flawed and all sorts of people get ahead in line..and some get stuck.
However, this crazy rants critizing the country where we want to settle down is a bit hypocritical. If you hate so much...please leave...its a choice.
Once again, I am not saying we do not fight for improvement..and better quotas..better visa allocation (and more of them). But let us not behave like bad guests.
I am personally suffering big time despite being in the country for 10 years..and will support initiatives. But I will not behave like as if I have been wronged. If one feels so wronged..please pack up and leave. If you think you have been cheated of your social security...by all means...please go to a country where you can earn more money and keep all that.
Once all of us become citizens...we will then start wondering that our jobs are being taken away by new immigrants..and the cycle continues........

I have a loan with LIC. The rates are pretty good and no-prepayment penalty if paid using NRI funds only. Took some time to set all this up. Definitely need a local person to carry out all the paperwork and good support from the builder. Their email system is not very efficient. Tried with HDFC before this in Hyd and had lots of problems getting the loan even after contacting the CEO.

Looks like IL is the place to get the license. No questions asked and you will get 5 years. I just had my license renewed for 5 years in Aug 2008 by mail even though my H1 expires in Oct 2009.
Hi Friends, I went to DMV PA (Bridgevile) to renew my drivers license recently. They are not accepting original EAD/ AP, copy of 485 receipt plus employer letter. They are asking for original 485 receipt. Unfortunately my ex-employer did not give the original receipt.

When we started the $20 contributions people felt $20 was too high and wanted $10 per month or less. Great find, Andy. Based on your explanation, I can say that our real problem is not the lack of visa numbers. There are enough visa numbers, but USCIS is not utilizing them.
This also tells me that an increase in visa numbers to 290,000 (or what ever number that the SKILL bill is asking for) would NOT change the situation a little bit. The end result only will be that the USCIS will end up with more number of unused visas.
Can the IV community do some thing to improve the whole situation?

You applied for your Labor and waited(establish a PD), everybody who applied after you was behind you.
After the Labor was approved, you applied for the I-140. This will determine your category/country of chargeability and will filter some of the fraud cases
After the I-140 was granted. You apply for either CP or AOS. At this point CIS/DOS knew how many applications were pending for each category/country and could move the dates smoothly.
Now the mess is so big that it takes them until February(6 months after the End of the previous Fiscal Year) to publish the number of visas issued

My brothers in blood, please calm down… Mahatma Gandhi had his own way of fighting for freedom and so did Subhash Chandra Bose. They must have agreed and disagreed with each other on many things. But at the end of day, their motive was the same “Justice and Freedom”.
We might have our differences, our opinions and ways of doing things, but we need to understand that our motive is the same. We should stop bickering with each other and concentrate on the main goal. We should keep encouraging our members to join hands and unite and fight for the cause.
Though you might not agree with each other, you still need to see how severely the issue must have affected the other person which is why they are here and ready to fight.
Please pull your (s)words to fight the injustice rather than fight with each other.

You need to take control of your family. The problem is that you allowed your inlaws to take control of your family. Second problem is that at the time of delivery the girl probably wanted her parents to come to US but you probably called your parents and she didnt like this nor did her parents. But that does not mean her parents will emotionally blackmail her.
1) You should tell your inlaws politely and candidly that they are interfering in your family and that needs to stop. Also communicate with your inlaws through your wife. Do not communicate with them directly. You did not marry them. They are no body to you, legally.
2) Your wife is under immense stress due to baby and parental pressure to control her. Her parents are trying to control your family through her. This is not the time to talk about separation because she has a young baby and she needs you as much as you need your baby. So you have to tell your wife what your inlaws are doing is not acceptable and just be firm that you will not tolerate it if she wants to live with you. And let her choose between her parents and you. This will be hard but you have to show some mental toughness.
3) When you got married , you started new family, you moved out of family of your parents. Though you dont have to break up with them, there may be some things that your parents do, that your wife does not like. You might think it is OK for your parents to advise or ask her to do things in certain fashion, but, it is NOT OK if she doesn't like it. She is a matured adult and can take care of her new family. So if you wish good of your parents, you have to "keep them at a safe distance." They should not interfere in your affairs.
4) You both husband and wife, need to handle each others parents in a matured way without insulting them. Both of you cant change your biological parents, but you can handle them diplomatically without insulting.
If this doesnt work, and you really want to separate, just tell your wife, that to allow things to cool down, you can live some place else for 3 months and assure her that you will take care of her and the baby. That will send a very clear message to your inlaws of the things to come. You just cant threaten to separate and run away.
Last, I do not know again how you treat your wife and inlaws. I dont mean to judge but do you treat them right? Why are they so desperate in this situation? Also I do not know any money transactions you have with inlaws, but, I would say, its not a good idea to involve inlaws in any kind of money. You invite 50% problems there.

The fee we pay is very less compare to what we pay to Attorneys. And USCIS cannot drastically increase fees. And we are stuck. That is the reality.
I think we should cut a check of same amount what we pay to attorneys.
It is not the problem of money. If they privatize the USCIS operations, I will show how to get it done much quickly, correctly, with lot of customer interaction.
USCIS wants you to believe what they tell you is the reality. It is not. They cover up their inefficiency with lies. There is way too much bereaucracy. Information does not trickle down from top to the bottom layers quickly, and top layer does not know what kind of operations are happening at bottom layer.
At best, we are feeding their pension plans and cushy retirement benefits.

As the CIR bill outline is getting introduced today, we all need to do our share in making our voice heard. Our issues are real and affect about a million people patiently waiting in line for past several years. We are high-skilled immigrants who have followed all the rules and contribute significantly to the innovation and economy of this county. Our strength is our grassroots efforts, so let us all call our lawmakers and ask them to take immediate action on the immigration bill.
Call your Legislators:
Immigration Voice is organizing a nationwide call-the-lawmakers drive. We request members to call each and every senator and congress member. This drive will precede the �Advocacy Day(s)� in Washington, DC and �Meet the lawmaker� drive in local districts. Members can use this phone call conversation with their local lawmaker offices to follow-up with lawmakers when they meet during the break just after the Memorial day.
Don�t miss this opportunity:
This is the perfect time to call the lawmakers. The bill needs a push via support from people like us and all lawmakers needs to be encouraged and urged to help us. There are indications that there will be lot of activity on immigration issues in both House and Senate after the Memorial day. We need to make those activities go in our favor and not die like the CIR bill in 2006 & 2007. Thus it is important to starting calling lawmakers, starting from the Senate members. In order to capitalize on this opportunity, it is very important that everyone calls every lawmaker of this country. The similar next opportunity will be in 2013. We can participate now or we will all have ourselves to blame.

If you belong to the constituency (State) of the lawmaker, then tell them that you belong to their district/state and are calling to seek their help. If you are talking to a Senator office then tell them you are anxiously waiting for a Senators support for the immigration bill.

- Supportive: Then thank the lawmaker office for it.

Pls lets all keep in touch. My lawyer sent mine around the same time as well. Did anyone have to file with a visascreen? One law firm said that the EAD would be denied becasue of no visascreen!!
I changed them for another law firm. Any other lawyers saying the same regarding visascreen?
