For those who follow NPR news, there is diane Reem show tomorrow on NPR radio and the subject is immigration reform.
It will be a good chance to make some sensible calls, but requesting to make a limited number of calls with clairty in questions, probably one at a time
Certainly a good chance (not to miss) so that our concerns can be heard across the country
If I understood it right, they wanted to remove the 10% per country limit for the Nurses and Physical Therapist since a majority come from 3 countries - India, China and Phillipines

If one can handle stress, anxiety and trauma while waiting for GC, then its worth waiting. If not, people like me start looking at options. I applied for Canadian PR in 2008 and just did CDN landing last week which gave my family feel of "cold weather".
I will be completing my 5 years stay in USA this spring. Same story here - I never visited my home country since there is a lot of uncertainty around getting back.
We are 100% sure that we don't want to continue living in USA. Now its matter of time, until summer 2010, that we move on. Just not sure yet - whether it is my home country or Canada. If I get a job back home in India, I would love to do that. From what I have heard from friends, and from recruiters response, in home country, I think economy is picking up. I hope to get some decent job offer based on my unique job profile; if it doesn't work, we will move on to Canada.

I'm sure the language should be worked out by USCIS as to whats best and whats not. Perhaps the "continous residency rule in US" need to be enacted. If a person leaves the country for a certain amount of time when on H1B may be > 6 months or 1year would loose his PD.
But atleast the proposal need to be before the rule makers

You have some more in other science related disciplines like TIFR (not sure if they give M.S. degree).
I did not see MS in any discipline.
They had PhD CS also; my friend got PhD from there.
They also had something like a CS diploma (don't remember details). They had 10 (??) theoretically sound courses. Students in most US schools will not be able to handle these courses.
However, course content is not the only strength of US Education (all levels). Something else (which is hard to enumerate and quantify) happens outside the classes. But it does not happen to everyone: some are not receptive and others don't run into it!

2 tier filing as of now does not allow EAD. it is only to pre adjudicate cases for i-485. Also, it opens a whole bunch of other problems. please read related (old) thread to it on this site.
If as part of 2 tier filing, EAD is allowed, i am all for it. So, we are only asking to get EAD/I-485 filing as soon as I-140 is approved.

What is important is that this sort of give and take can happen with out any law change. We only need to cry louder than FB folks, and USCIS may give unused FB visas to EB category.

At least I won't give u red dots if you can enlighten us how to get us out of this mess. And yes, we do want our green card so I don't think we can stop the process or stop spending money on that. Also please advise us how to bring all 70K people under one umbrella?

Enough of this Gandhiian ways. This country is not good for people like Gandhi. Already, folks here are wasting their money, year after year, on their EADs and APs for them and their family. Just think for a second guys, It costs us 1000 $ to maintain status on AOS and visit our family and this is going on indefinitely for our years now. USCIS/Congress does not want to do anything about this, They are happy to get the revenue. Even if you think a minimum of 200,000 people spending 1000 $ an year, it is 200,000,000 $. Iam not even considering the amount they spent on other things like H1B extension, H4s..... Just think about the Dollars they are making on this Green Card SCAM. Accept it or not, it is indirectly affecting our lives, even though, GC is not really important for lot of folks. Iam one such person, I have a good client and a decent employer and iam with the same folks for 9 years and they are happy extending my H1b at their cost. But still, this whole GC game, is sometimes disturbing. They are playing with our emotions and our loved ones. So, GUYS we need to take a bigger and bolder step. To me, Calling people, sending flowers and letters explaining the situation makes no sense. Do you think, those guys dont really know about our situation. Let us a make a bold move. We are 70,000 folks just here in ImmigrationVoice. Let us compile a letter,that pushes USCIS/Congress on improving the condition. As long as they get those EXTRA Dollars, i dont think anything is going to happen. Even if they remove the provision to apply for GC while on H1B, it is good for us, for we will know that in advance and can plan on shaping our future better, instead of this false promise and emotional torture. I think even AILA or other Lawyers are useless. They dont want to do anything for us. All they do is, interpret the LAW , and explain us in the way we can understand. They dont take steps to fight for the justice. All they care is the money. So let us make our point clear to USCIS, we dont want to waste money on EADs and APs and H1B extensions. To me, it should be free of cost, since it is their problem that they dont work efficiently. our attorney did not port yet. He will (if not automatically ported ) now. I am not sure how one should do, we will port after I-140 approval. I-140 approval time, I am not sure 2 days - 4 months. In my case it took 2 days (premium processing).
