I plan on staying here for 5 more years and then I am going back - GC or no GC ;)
After having lived in the US for 8 yrs, I still find myself craving for all things Indian - food, grocery, music, friends, movies, TV channels etc.
For me GC is just a convenience which will allow me to change jobs and hopefully get to the level that I should have if I had not been stuck because of the H1B.
My kids are US citizens and they are free to come back & study/work/live here when they are old enough to make that decision.
To go back after having managed to get here was a tough decision to make, but the whole retrogression thing has made it easier for me.

Pappu - it is good to know that we are using the current mass media in this techie country (actually world...should say). Anything "Open" would yield good results.
My suggestion is not only contribution but also careful screening of opinions would be needed.
I will definitely love to contribute.

So did you buy home theatre after filing 485 or before? Btw, I dont believe there is any relationship to income wrt visa status.

It is true that a lot of the members signed up just so that they can follow the happenings, and maybe post an immediate question that they might have. We may have a huge membership base, but without any action from such a base can make any plan from the core a failure. What we need to do is to energize the baselevel members. The senate is comprised of senators from our respective states, and the house has reps from each state. We have individual state chapeters for IV. I think the Core will need to plan out a strategy to help the state chapters approach their senators and house reps, while the core concentrates on contacting the DoJ committees. Meeting a few senators here and there will not help. We need to contact ALL the senators and apprise them of the situations. Rather than have a different message sent to each senator, the core will need to define an agenda, and the communication needed. The state chapters will need to take that and follow up with their respective senators and reps, without diluting any of the messages. Having the core meet all the senators is not proper, we need to pitch in too. Unless we work as a team, nothing that the core has planned will work.
I was/am a member in immigration.com where all the talk of starting this forum happened. I have interacted with the core on many occassions before, and I was also one of the first to join this community. But work and family pressures prompted me to stay away, and in the meantime, my handle and password were forgotten. I had to resign up, and what I find today is that there is no understanding between the members. Be thankful that this forum was set up, and contribute positively in any way you can. Without your support, the core cant do it all. Lets stop worring about donations and membership fees. We are all intelligent, and highly paid. We have the brains to talk to senators and house reps. Lets move forward to get at least piecemeal legislations passed. Lets not wait for CIR. CIR is not going to happen, so dont believe in it.

First of all I am really sorry for all this happening to you. Unfortunately, this is happening more and more since the anti-dowry laws have been made which are so ridiculous. Females get the credit of being innocence from our society even if they are not. All they need to do is be 1. somewhat beautiful, 2. sob in society and 3. be young and everybody on the earth thinks that they are "poor , innocent girl" ..even if they are perfect culprits.

I agree with the above posts, they are stealing money by having stupid charges. Why do you need to charge a customer Rs.400 for changing his account password. It is absolutely ridiculous! Compare that to a bank in US, you just go online and change the password. Also, they have 2 passwords one called Account password to login to the account and another called Transaction password for making any transactions. So the more number of passwords you have the more you tend to forget either of them and they can charge you Rs.400 for each password reset!:mad:

First of all congratulations to ind_game.
Today I received NOID for not submitting AC21. My I-140 is not revoked. I received an RFE last month for birth certificate & updated g-325a form. In the g-325a form I mentioned my current employer which would have triggered NOID for AC21.
I left the GC sponsored employer after 9 years on May 2008 well after 180 days and joined an insurance company. The company got hammered by financial crises. So I left that company and joined other stable company on Dec 2009 as a full time employee.
My current job description is similar to the one mentioned on ETA but not same. I am not sure if changing 2 jobs will be a problem.
If anyone had submitted any documents for AC21 please share. I will really appreciate it.

I was very busy till today.
I'll call all the #s tomorrow and let them know how important is the CIR for legal immigration, and how I am not able to buy a house, or start a company, as I have no greencard inspite of waiting for 8-10 years. Not to forget I am from India and it is severely backlogged. Also we have jobs, so we're not taking away anything.
I have to be very brief. So please let me know if I'm missing any impo point.

Yesterday I emailed the same to my senators (Tx)... Today I called one of the senator's office and the guy who was talking to me did not have any clue about the issue. So after explaining the issue I faxed the letter again, ofcourse to both senators office.

Following a one time contribution I signed up for $20 re-occurring (Jan 2007). I have discontinued that to go to $50 now! I think if anyone wants to THANK and appreciate the work all IV volunteers did, they should be do so by paying. No thank you cards no flowers....just reoccurring contribution!

Morally it is right to send money to parents, but legally it is not. As you can strive but, you wont be fair to either set of parents. Hence I believe "money" should not be sent to parents. Your parents should have planned their own future, including humanitarian needs. Only if your other half agrees, then only you should send money. Otherwise, it is your and your spouse's money.
Yes, you are right! The Indian parent should have given their retirement a very high priority than their kids education. There are millions of middle class parents who didn't care about their retirement but worried and planned for their kids future by spending not only money but also precious time.
How many Indian origin parents in US invest in their children to make them a 'well rounded' personality so that these children can go to IVY leagues? I believe, it is time for them to focus on their retirement than to spend money on Kumon, Music/Dance classes, soccer/swimming lessons, softball/little league, chess lessons, spelling bee etc...
And why should they move to a sprawling four bedroom home in a suburb and save on heating cost by making their home as an igloo? The reason is their kids can get more space to play around, get a sense of community and build friends.
Just a 3BR aptmt should suffice. And why would a returning NRI want to enroll his kids in an International school?

'just enough' for their kids and load up their IRA, 401K and after tax mutual fund or probably put it in a CD or stash it under a mattress! You know why, the ungrateful kid doesn't care about the parents even during humanitarian crisis!

Our hero would visit his parents apartment with his wife in tow, alight from his beamer and tell "Alright dad, It's OK if you don't have money to treat your cancer. We would surely help you thru our contacts. Our temple group has a special program. Also it's a great advantage that my wife has lots of contacts in her part-time business. She's also a part of a church group that takes up urgent humanitarian needs..Don't worry, we'll make it"
