Why is there so much discussion surrounding this stimulus package, I thought all of were highly skilled, high educated clique who made the big $$.
I have seen numerous occasions where people boast of large pay packets, bill rates, and now this is a measly $1,200, an amount that could be made with working 2 days is generating such a huge discussion. This does not add up???
This is not only about $$$, it is about discrimination. The Military families who are affected need this money more than we do, and I feel for them. However, what if next time they push through a law the prevents you from claiming any credits, no child tax credits, no mortgage credits, nothing. Then they add new "immigrant taxes", which in fact the ITIN rule already is. The only way to stop more legislation like this one is to stand up for our rights.
Another reason to act on this matter is the SSN issue. I know I have come across several situations when my family members ran into difficulty because they don't have SSNs. This law could provide an opportunity for getting SSNs for family members.

Can my wife switch to the EAD status and start working even though I remain on H1 status till my visa expiry? Is this allowed?

If yes, then can she travel on AP while I'm still on H1 visa?

If we're both re-entering the US, can the IO ask why is the spouse on EAD/AP and not the primary applicant?
--No i dont think he will ask..Even if he asks you can tell clearly Primary applicant (yourself) still on H1 and derivate(your wife) using EAD for work.

Visa numbers have been recaptured in the past (year 2000, I think).
Do we know more details on how this happened? Who worked for this and what did they do to make their efforts successful?
Same with the AC21 provision that allows changing jobs after 180 days. That is a huge accomplishment for whoever worked to make it happen.

all i can say is lets hope that this time next year we are still not debating about this.
if lobbying alone works and gets our job doen thats fantastic. then there is no reason to do anything else. why even bother to get media attention, put up posters, have state chapters, etc?

People who are on H4 ITIN couples, should seriously consider discrimination based litigation. I am fully sympathetic to their situation. Not long ago I was in the same boat. Make it harder for the government to make dimes on your money. They wont make it harder for you then.

My heart jumps with joy, but my brain still caution the heart to wait for the official visa bulletin at DOS/USCIS website. USCIS has a trend of "correcting" the visa bulletin. Nevertheless, if the dates are really what they are published at Mumbai site, its a time for us to be happy.
EB2 looks promising, but in this moment of joy lets not forget our friends in EB3 category. Anyone whose priority date is current, please don't just move forward with your joy, and continue to support IV and our initiatives to help legal immigrants. We have suffered so much because the folks who came prior to us never bothered to support legal immigration, once they got their their GC. Please remember that after GC/Citizenship, our status in this nation as a minority group depends on how active we are socially/politically.

I feel that initiator of this thread is not trying a coup d'�tat. He is merely pointing to the fact that every organization runs by elected officials. Having a life term president and core group is only heard in autocratic systems but not in a democratic one. What are we as an organization?
Why are we afraid of discussing new ideas? Why shouldn't we open up IV organization for elections? There is nothing wrong in declaring the rules and then playing by those rules.
So I completely support the guy who came up with this suggestion.
